In der Forschungsarbeit werden Texte untersucht, in denen Phantasien der Selbstüberschreitung und Entgrenzung im Rahmen des Schreibens über sich beschrieben werden. Dabei wird die Entwicklung transgressiver Subjektivität als eine Extremform ästhetischer Subjektivität herausgearbeitet, für die der potentiell unabschließbare Akt der Selbstüberschreitung konstitutiv ist und die sich in der Literatur in heterogenen Formen (Figurationen) niederschlägt. Die Literatur wird als ein Möglichkeitsraum deutlich, in dem sich über das Feld der Literatur / Ästhetik hinausgehende, radikale Gegenentwürfe zur ,modernen Subjektivität' entwickelt haben. Unter Bezug auf Michel Foucaults Konzept der Selbsttechniken wurden diese als Formen einer individuellen Ästhetik der Existenz interpretiert. Dabei geht es darum nachzuvollziehen, auf welcher historischen Grundlage, mit welchen Techniken und im Sinne welcher Zielstellungen, Figurationen transgressiver Subjektivität literarisiert werden. This study examines literary fantasies of boundary dissolution as a development constitutive of modernism. The concept of transgressive subjectivity denotes an extreme form of aesthetic subjectivity resulting from writing about oneself. Drawing on Foucault, this approach enables an interpretation of literature as a space of possibility that generates radical alternatives to modern subjectivity.

Das Buch problematisiert die traditionelle Verknüpfung von Literatur, Sprache und Nation und stellt die deutschsprachige Literatur der letzten hundert Jahre in ihrer Heterogenität in einen europäischen Kontext. Untersucht werden Werke von Autoren aus Randgebieten Mitteleuropas, aus sprachlichen Exklaven, von freiwilligen und unfreiwilligen Emigranten sowie Einwanderern, womit die Vielschichtigkeit dieser Literatur veranschaulicht wird. This book problematizes the traditional relationship between literature, language, and nation, and places the German literature of the last century and its heterogeneity in a European context. It examines works by authors from peripheral areas of Central Europe and linguistic enclaves, by voluntary and involuntary emigrants, and by immigrants, illustrating the multifaceted nature of this literature.
